The Wanted - The Code - Opening date.

(Old upload)

The 15th February 2012 saw The Wanted begin their tour The Code at the Capital FM Nottingham Arena. Leah, Edina, Kimmeeh and myself got to Nottingham at 11 for pre-concert shopping. We made our way to Capital FM Arena so I could show them where it is, then we saw a massive group of people collecting around the back. Dedicated? Yes. Crazy? Most Definitely!
After which we shopped for a while and arrived back at Capital FM Arena around 3, (It was already absolutely freezing) and stood there until 3:30, the two girls who stood near us were really nice. Then we went and had a McDonalds, we didn't want to starve as well as freeze.

We returned to the back of the Arena at about 4:10. We stood there until 5:40 (well me and Kimmeeh on our own for a while as I refused to move ;) )
(This includes a rant at Capital FM staff.) We started queueing inside the arena at around 5:45 but were then moved to queueing outside a few minutes later. The boys had put on twitter that the concert would be starting half an hour earlier than the tickets stated so we hoped they would let us in half an hour early too. Yeah, what were we thinking =\. Well it came to 6:15 and they began to open the doors after one of the Capital arena employees had laughed at us. Lets just say, we were all getting irate with the staff by this point.
Then it came to a minute before half past six, (when the tickets stated we would be let in by) and the staff shut all of the doors. We could also still here the soundcheck going on.
At quarter to 7 they let us in, the woman told us to go to the doors with the 'orange bit' above the top, first we went to the toilets, then realised every door has an 'orange bit' above it. We asked the guy stood near the toilets- 'go to doors 6-8'. Yeah, helpful when there are doors '5-7' and doors '8-10'.
Finally there was a guy stood near the program stand who told us in detail where to go.
I'd just like to say, Capital FM Arena Staff, the majority of you are crap.

Anyway, we bought a program, which cost £15 each, expensive (especially compared to the Taylor Swift one at £10), but they are really good and of course, they are the first interactive concert programs.

I also bought the 'TWFanmily' wristband for £5.

Onto the concert -
Parade were quite good, their performance was great and I'm so glad that they performed Louder. Although, the performance was completely choreographed, not a fan of all the dancing. They had quite a high amount of crowd participation and everyone seemed to be enjoying them. Some of the outfits weren't that great. It must have been good for the girls to be opening the tour and get such a great reception.

Lawson were really good, I knew they would be because I enjoyed them at the last tour. They had a massive amount of crowd participation with girls screaming over them.
They did a cover of Ed Sheeran's A Team, flawless, and abosolutely amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsE3F9qp0Rg
They had a twitter competition during their set to go backstage with them but 3G was terrible inside the Arena, same as signal overall.
Oh hello there Lawson.

Now onto Fanfair..... As soon as they started I knew there was only one way it was going, and that was downhill.. From the outset they struggled to gain any crowd participation and no-one was stood throughout their stage time. When they attempted to do a sing back with the audience, no-one responded for the first two times and the third only got a response out of pity. Although the most awkward moment came when during a performance one of them said 'I want to see everybody jump', every single person in the arena stayed seated. I must say that I applaud them for trying to get the crowd participating, but sadly failing.
Last thing - their style was far too similar to that of The Saturdays, mainly the hairstyles. A bit more originality could have saved that performance somewhat from disaster.
I do, however, feel quite sorry for the girls, it can't have been easy, especially when the first night of the tour sets off with a reception like that.

The fourth support act was Ben Montague, I must admit I didn't know anything about him before he came on stage. From the start the crowd participation was relatively high, with a lot of people standing. The performance was really good and I encourage people to see him during his solo tour.

Onto The Wanted
It took a while for the boys to come on stage after Ben finished because the employees were still climbing up onto the lights, (which we all found addictive to watch).
It opened with a video clip (including BAFTA winning acting of course).

They rose onto the stage from underneath which was incredible. They all wore black to go with the 'Spy' theme, I have a particular love for guys wearing black clothes. They should all wear black shirts more often, and (unlikely) but if Jay ever wishes to wear that vest thing again, I would not complain.

The boys included a range of their newer songs found on the album 'Battleground' including some of those only available on the deluxe version, as well as their older hits, such as Lose my mind and Heart Vacancy.
They also chose to incorporate another melody, following the success of their first tour's Taio Cruz melody, for The Code they chose to perform a Coldplay melody. Coldplay are one of Tom's favourite bands which is likely to have had a large amount of influence on this decision.
Before they performed the Coldplay songs I was never really a big fan of 'Paradise' and didn't really like to listen to it, but I must admit I absolutely loved The Wanted's version, they added their own twist onto it, as well as the other songs. These twists gave it a feeling of being their own, (future XFactor contestants take note!!) and allowed those in the crowd who may not usually be a great fan of Coldplay to enjoy the performance too.

The whole show was thoroughly entertaining, and as everyone by now should know, The Wanted don't dance .. BUT Jay did dance, it was the only show that he did the dance at, but it was great to see him do. However, the other boys didn't dance, which is because they aren't a dancing boyband, they do what they do live, amazingly and they don't need any other form of entertainment, their singing is enough. To be honest I think if they stood in the same place without moving their fans would still enjoy the performance, because they're all about the LIVE performance...

Jay did look absolutely adorable when he was 'drumming', he looked like a little boy.. so cute =P

It is obvious that the first show isn't going to be flawless, in fact no show is due to the complexity of them, but the first show is one massive tester for the rest of the tour. Therefore there were a couple of mistakes.. but we can forgive them for them, and anyway, it makes it more memorable does it not?
