After having my blonde bits added I decided to just keep the bits that the hairdresser did, and then I added colour to my hair.
I decided on using Directions dye in Carnation Pink, on the samples in the shop it was a really bright pink, so I toned it down with conditioner to make it more of a pastel pink.... but it faded really really quickly..and within 4 days it had pretty much faded to a stained blonde.
This led me to dye it again but without using the conditioner, and it came out a lot brighter, not quite the pastel shade I originally wanted but I liked it anyway.
I also decided to add Directions dye in Atlantic Blue which again was really bright on the samples so I toned it down, but it turned more of a turquoise straight away and within a week I had to dye it again, this time without conditioner and it came out quite a dark but still bright blue. As most people know blue dye turns green on blonde hair as it fades, which makes it a bit of a full time job to keep blue.
For only being £4 per tub I think they're great semi-permanent dyes, and seeing as I only do sections I can tell that they will last me quite a while.
They are conditioning, therefore are less harmful to your hair than other dyes available, which is great, particularly if you've had to bleach your hair for these dyes to show up.
Another thing is that both colours have shown up on my natural brown hair, not as bright but they give my hair a nice tint in sections, which I think compliments the bright colours in the blonde parts well.
However I would say that the downside is how quickly the pink washes out, and my blonde hair ends up looking strawberry-blonde, but the blue does last longer even if it turns green eventually. The dyes also stain your hair for a little while, for example I end up with slight strawberry blonde hair for a couple of weeks after it faded, I haven't yet left the blue to completely fade out because I want to keep it blue not green, so I can't say how much that stains your hair afterwards.
